Overview
Clinical, Indirect Patient Care or No Patient Care
This level is for vendors that provide products/services that affect patient care, but typically are not present or involved when the care is administered. This includes vendors that serve in clinical/patient care areas, but with limited scope of duties. Typically, the areas that this vendor would access are limited to the non-surgical and non-invasive. These vendors are more likely to spend time in Administrative offices, pharmacy, case management, nursing services, the general medical floors (ICU, MICU, CCU, telemetry, etc) These vendors might be responsible for conveying clinical information to a caregiver/clinician such as prescribing information, clinical guidelines, operating instructions, etc. Occasionally, vendors in this category will review charts and discuss patient specific information with clinicians. These Vendors do not operate equipment or observe or attend procedures with patients.
Examples for vendors of this level include (but are not limited to) Pharmaceutical Reps, Hospital Consultants, Laboratory Vendors, Vendors who focus on Case Management, Nursing services, general medical floors (ICU, MICU, CCU, etc), Home Health Care Reps, Durable Medical Equipment Reps, etc.
Clinical, Present During Patient Care
Vendors that primarily service in clinical support roles. These vendors operate equipment, provide technical support and assistance, demonstrate proper product assembly/use/care and attend procedures with patients.
The responsibilities of vendors in this category require them to be in surgery/invasive areas and handle patient sensitive materials such as implant records, patient chargeable items, etc.
Examples for vendors of this level include (but are not limited to) Medical Device sales reps, Biomaterials Sales Reps, Capital Equipment Sales Reps, etc.
Clinical Contractors / Healthcare Providers
Clinical Staff Contractors who provide direct patient care and/or services on behalf of an organization within the facility.
Examples for vendors of this level include (but are not limited to) contracted nursing, therapy, pharmacy, dietary, activities staff, drug and alcohol counselors, and nursing assistants/aides, Surgical Assistants and other clinical contractors. These healthcare provider's roles require them to fulfill patient care responsibilities.
Non-Clinical, Student or Professional Vendor
Facility common area Vendors and Students who enter the facility but typically do not access patient care areas or participate in patient care. These individuals, do not provide technical assistance, do not operate equipment, and do not provide assistance or consult with patient care staff or clinicians.
Examples for members of this level include (but are not limited to) Students, Contractors, Delivery Vendors, Grounds-keeping vendors, etc. Some credentials are required and chosen by the facility.
No Vendor Access (Hospital Volunteer Only)
Facility common area for Badge Only or Volunteers who enter the facility but typically do not access patient care areas or participate in patient care. These individuals, do not provide technical assistance, do not operate equipment, and do not provide assistance or consult with patient care staff or clinicians.
Examples for members of this level include (but are not limited to) Facility Volunteers, retail vendors such as gift shops, cafeteria/food service vendors, or any other No Fee Vendor not requiring credentials.
